Cable
Probe
76 Meters / 250 Feet
Rescuing victims from vertical shafts can
be an extremely dangerous and time-consuming ordeal. The Searchcam
CableProbeÙ has been created to give the rescue team the ability
to visualize and communicate with victims up to 250Ì or 76
meters below the surface without having to enter the hazardous
area. The Searchcam CableProbe shares all the same features
and functions of the standard Searchcam 2000 Victim Location
System except that the camera head is attached to a flexible
cable rather than the rigid telescoping probe. This gives
the ability to lower the articulated camera head down into
a shaft to locate the victim. Once the victim has been located,
the rescuers can communicate with the victim to determine
the extent of injuries and to reassure the victim that help
is on the way. At the same time, valuable information can
be gathered to determine the best course of action to extricate
the victim to the surface. If the victim is deceased, this
fact can be determined prior to risking personnel in a rescue
attempt. This frees the rescue team to plan a safe orderly
recovery, rather than a rapid and potentially dangerous rescue
operation. The CableProbe is designed to operate both during
extension and retraction of the cable. This feature allows
the cable length to be adjusted as needed without shutting
down the system. This keeps the entry area free from tangled
cords and greatly simplifies line management during the rescue
operation.

A
confined space rescue is the most difficult and dangerous
type of rescue any team will face. The CableProbe can increase
rescue team safety by letting the attendant see and hear exactly
what the entry team is encountering.
Confined Space Rescue
with the CableProbe
The
Searchcam CableProbe camera head can be carried into a confined
space with the rescue entry team. This will provide both two-way
communication and the ability to visually monitor the rescue
from outside the space. Once the camera head is placed within
the space, the rescue team is free to begin packaging the
victim for extrication. During the extrication process, the
entry attendant can monitor and communicate with the entry
team. Since the camera head is remotely controlled by the
attendant, no further action is required from the rescue team.
This leaves the rescue team with free hands and free from
attached cables. The CableProbe comes with a magnetic clamp
that allows placement of the camera head on bulkheads. If
it becomes necessary for the rescue team to exit the confined
space prior to removing the victim, the CableProbe can be
left behind to monitor the victim until the team returns.
